Just wanted to say Thanks to everyone at Gecko for a great experience at renting vehicle. We rented a car for one week and a mini van (which was brand new) for another both were very nice vehicles before I was handed the keys they gave me a little test on the rules of the road very informative I think the most important thing they told me was if I got pulled over to not pay cash and to call the office and let them deal with the officer and they would get my license back from the police station and pay the fine that I would pay them back. I will definitely rent from Gecko again next year. Thanks for making our vacation very memorable and the rental process so easy. See you next year

This is by far the easiest and most professional car rental company we have dealt with in Mexico. The staff are friendly and very professional. The cars are as advertised and very clean. The experience was very easy from start to finish and there were no hidden fees or upsell

Booking was easy and clear. No surprises and extra expenses. Kena at the rental office was personable, efficient and took the time to give us the tips on PV driving rules. Wanted to rent a car for a week from Bucerias location. I wanted to rent prior to getting to Mexico to avoid disappointment of nothing available.. Sent question on their online form and emailed them twice in a 10 day period with a very simple question and never heard back from them.

We’re from Vancouver and have rented from Gecko both times we’ve come to PV. Smooth and hassle free. I read a lot of reviews before committing to Gecko. If you’re from out of country and worried about getting a fast one pulled on you in mexico, you’re safe with Gecko. Admittedly I found a number of things disconcerting the first time around – they don’t appear in Expedia, they don’t have an online booking system, emails to confirm dates and car, their warehouse is on a dusty side street – but it’s just good old fashioned service by people who know trust is EVERYTHING. I’m Hertz gold so auto default to Hertz everywhere I go. Mexican Hertz (and all the big brands) are private full owned and run and don’t abide by the same rules I’m used to in Canada and the US. Not being upfront about charges, scamming on repairs required on return…Gecko is none of that. They’re upfront about their rates, insurance (yes it is mandatory in Mexico and no your Visa Infinite Super Coverage Privilege card is not enough). The deductible is huge but that’s the same everywhere. The difference is that Gecko is upfront and honest about everything. Rates are good, cars are new and clean, service is amazing and you can trust you won’t get screwed.

Only thing I wish was better is the airport transfer – it’s a gong show coming into PV airport over the holidays. Our name wasn’t on any sign, the lines for different zones aren’t clear, it’s kinda classic Mexican chaos right off the bat. Ideally they’d have someone there with a name sign. The instructions in the confirmation email from Gecko are clear, and you can navigate to the VIP Services sign and find someone to ask if that’s the place for Gecko transfers, but it’s a gong show. The first person told us it wasn’t the line for Gecko. The second person said it was and took our names. Diff cars and Suburbans come and go to pick people up and you’re never really sure if your pick up is coming. Then it does and it all works out. But the transfer is the one part that could be smoother. Everything else is 10/10.

We used Gecko for the first time out of Puerto Vallarta after receiving several local recommendations. What a breath of fresh air! The quoted price includes insurance (required in MX) and was very reasonable. No hidden fees or other BS. Service was extremely friendly, fast and efficient. Will definitely use next time we go to Mexico.

We have rented with Gecko for years, and each time they have brand new vehicles, in excellent condition. Their service is top-notch and there are not hidden fees or any extras on the price, what’s posted is the price you pay. It’s nice having the VIP service pick up and airport drop off. This is the only company we use when renting a vehicle in the area, and it provides us the freedom to explore the many small towns up and down the coastline.

Great company to rent from. Called and Dina gave me a quote over the phone for a suburban. She validated the quote through an e-mail. When we arrived at the airport, there is a VIP desk where they had my name. They walked me to a car that took me to the Gecko office. Kena greeted me and explained the contract, driving laws (turning left a bit weird) and sent me on my way. No extra costs. When we returned the suburban in, they drove us to the airport in the suburban instead of changing cars. They drove another car to pick up the driver, this way we did not have to switch baggage to the other car. Ms. Kena had us in and out of the office in less than 15 minutes. She was always very helpful and respectful. This is how a business, and its representatives should be like. Thumbs up to Gecko and Thumbs up X10 to Kena.

I have been traveling to PVR for nearly 3 years now and recently moved here. I learned quickly that Gecko is the best rental car company from all of the locals — and they truly are. I love the team at Bucerias (I live in Punta Mita) and they always take care of my needs. I rent at least 1-2 times per month as I don’t have a car here.

My boyfriend and I had made a reservation with one of the big car rental places. That was a huge mistake! Very sketchy. We didn’t move forward with the other company and called Gecko to see what they could do while we were still at the other place facilities. Gecko staff was very friendly and helpful since the first minute on the phone. They picked us up from the other place. The girls at the office showed us the different driving rules. They even helped us to download offline Google maps. They went above and beyond to make sure we would be safe and enjoy our vacation. The car was in great condition and very clean. Plus, the price is very honest. We highly recommend Gecko!!!

Normally we just rent golf carts for local fun.. this trip it was a little hot and we wanted to go out to San pancho and sayulitas so We rented a car for a few days . We have exchanged a few emails before the rental and all our questions were answered promptly. Last year I made the mistake of renting from Hertz and Avis at the PV airport. Aside from the huge deposits and extra charges for breathing air in the vehicles, we went through 4 cars in 2 months. The quality of their vehicles was brutal. This year we tried Gecko in Bucerias. What a pleasure to deal with. The staff all spoke very good english or at least tried to help you and genuinely delivers excellent service. Definitely the place to rent your car from!! It ends up costing the same after all the ‘surprise’ extra costs at the airport rental agencies and you get a far superior vehicle. Getting airport pick-up and drop-off in your rental vehicle is super convenient, too.

I’ve been renting from Gecko for years, since they were located in a single, small office in Bucerias. I’ve watched them grow from a small outfit to one which now numbers 100s of rentals. One thing that has not changed is they stick to their quotes, not trying to upsell, add additional fees or play bait-n-switch games. We went to pick up a car from Mex car at the airport. They tried to treble the quoted price, so we walked away. A few days later I ended up renting a 22 plate Toyota Hilux pick-up truck from Gecko in Bucerias. Kena and Miguel were brilliant. They replied to emails very quickly and nothing was to much hassle for them. The process was fast and simple and at a great price. On top of that there were no extras to pay, It included full insurance and additional drivers! I guess you only find out how good a company is when you have a problem, I had a rear window smashed so called them, They asked me to come straight down and they would swop it like for like which they did. They deducted the cost of the repair from my deposit which certainly wasn’t at an inflated price. When I dropped it back on the last day they also drove us back to the airport free of change. A big Thankyou to Kena and Miguel, I’ll definitely rent from you again.

I have rented cars from dozens of places in PV. GECKO was less that 10in on and out the door. Car was clean, staff were friendly . Prices were fair. Will be the only place I rent from now

We spent the week in Sayulita and visited San Pancho and Lo De Marcos. I initially reserved a truck because I thought it would be fun, but turns out it was necessary for the roads if you go much further north of PV. The manager and staff were all super friendly and helpful. If I return to PV I’m definitely renting from Gecko again.

We rented the Rav 4 for 13 days and had no issues. The staff are great and price they quote is the price you pay no dickering around when you get there like most of the other renal companies. I am looking to rent again as we had to return the vehicle so I’;m looking to rent another one. this is a honest well run company that provides great honest service.

We’ve been traveling to Vallarta quite often using different car rentals, never pleased 100% till we found Gecko, just rented a large car (hard to find anywhere else) price was right, no hidden fees (nightmares with the other companies). Made reservations through internet, they were prompt with the reservations, maybe faster than calling them. At arrival, they had signs even before we picked our luggage up and they let you know where to go, VIP area, then they take you to the shop, which is by the airport but it’s by a side road, dirt/rock, I’m telling you so you won’t get scared, we were wondering where they were taking us, haha. Then you get to the huge shop, Beto and Cesar gave us all the information and in no time we were off. No problems at all. Again, no extra fees for insurance, extra drivers, etc etc. Also, car was super clean. At time of drop off we didn’t have time to fill the tank they took us to do it, then drove us to the airport. That easy! Finally found a company we can use every time we visit Vallarta. Highly, highly recommend them.

Gil and his team were easy to work with. They have a service take you to the offsite rental. Trip took less than 20 minutes. We walked past all the on-site rental booths. They were staffed about 50%. I was charged the quoted price. I’m just a hassled from Missouri, first time renting in Mexico.

I had a reservation with one of those big airport rental companies however come time to check out the price tripled. I hung up the phone and called Gecko and was quoted around 250 for the week out the door, they picked us up at the airport ,and a short drive to the garage ,5 minutes of paper work and we were gone. The car was a year or two old but worked perfectly. Same easy checkin, quick gas fill up ,and away we were off to go home. They had a great service attitude and really know how to run their business. Very professional. We be back next vacation!

I am writing this review to thank Beto for his services to me. I would not think of renting a car from any other company than Gecko rent a car in Puerto Vallarta. I left my prescription glasses behind as i was running late for my flight. Beto tried to reach me through phone and text until was able to teach me. You don’t have to worry about being charged for extra cost as the insurance covered everything , The process of picking up and returning the car is fast without the hassle unlike most of the other car rental companies which you have to wait for 30 mins .If you want to extend the car rental period , you can just inform them by email . YOU WANT TO RENT YOUR CAR FROM THESE GUYS. After renting from Thrifty in PV once and not being sure of the charges, we looked at other companies and have only rented from Gecko for 14 years. Most honest, fair priced, great cars, straight up people at a car rental we’ve ever encountered in a foreign country. They will go out of their way to accommodate a customer, even meeting us at the airport at arrival with the car and driving us back for departure. They speak excellent English and will explain the Mexican insurance mumbo jumbo to you without any upsell nonsense. You can trust them totally. If only every business were run this way.

Overall best car rental experience ever! I rented a car for a month and when i paid at the return with cash I was overcharged $50 USD not pesos! They called me and told me they overcharged me and delivered the cash a couple days later!

My husband and I were very pleasantly surprised by how smooth and easy our rental experience was with Gecko. Leaving the airport was safe and simple thanks to their VIP service.
